“This Ussher and Kemp Federation heritage home, is in one of the most distinguished and desirable leafy lined streets of Camberwell. In close collaboration with Roger McAleer Architects and Ocean Blue Builders this double story home was transformed. A full renovation including landscaping, pool, furniture, art procurement and interior project management transformed this heritage home. Our client’s love of contemporary design with Japanese influence and a family with deep sailing ties established our brief. Thoughtful consideration to existing architectural details allowed a harmonious blend of heritage and modern. Using textural carpets, tiles, wallpaper and blackbutt timbers we formed a background to encase naturally toned furniture and walls adorned with bright artworks form Australian contemporary artists.

Roger McAleer – Architect – Victoria Pde, Camberwell

The project involved large additions and a full refurbishment/renovation of a historically significant Victorian era brick and tile home in a highly valued heritage area of Camberwell.

The design maintains the appearance of the house as viewed from the street and retains the main existing rooms in the front section, although completely refurbished and re-imagined to include conventionally expected amenities such as Ensuite and WIR.

A double storey addition at the rear houses, at ground level , new Kitchen, Family/Informal Dining , Study and Living area opening onto the rear garden and Pool/Cabana. The upper level extends refurbished bedrooms and bathroom, adding Rumpus room, Guest room and bathroom.

The approval process proceeded smoothly by ensuring the design accommodated the wishes of the Council’s Heritage advisors, whilst not compromising the clients’ brief.

Natalie and Chris Dance were a pleasure to work with and the outcome was considerably enhanced by their engagement of Interior Designer Penny Wheeler (Penny June Interiors).

Ocean Blue Builders won the project after a selected tenderers process and were helpful and professional throughout what was a complicated part demolition, re-instatement, and large additions project on a reasonably restricted site working around the installation of an in-ground pool. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them for this magnitude of domestic build.
